Structural Assessment – Mooring Connector

📌 Mission Objective

For its floating offshore wind turbine platform (FOWT), our client entrusted us with the complete structural assessment of a custom-designed mooring connector.

Unlike conventional systems, this connector is attached to the hull using pre-stressed high-strength steel bars, relying on friction for load transfer.

🧠 Approach & Actions

  • Company documents and specifications review
  • Behavior assessment of the clamp mechanism
  • Prestressing loss derivation
  • Numerical modelling with FEA
  • Strength and fatigue analysis
  • Post-processing, interpretation, conclusions and reporting

🗃️ Deliverables

  • Structural analysis report
  • Finite Element model (Femap project files)
  • Calculation spreadsheets (Excel)
