📌 Mission Objective
As part of a fixed-bottom offshore wind farm development, the client entrusted us with the structural assessment of a transition piece (TP) during its offshore transportation onboard a dedicated vessel.
The objective was to evaluate the TP’s structural behavior under combined loading conditions, including wind forces and vessel-induced accelerations. The TP was secured to the deck using a dedicated anti-uplift system, which was included in the assessment scope.
🧠 Approach & Actions
- Review of of TP supplier and the marine transport contractor inputs (TP drawing, deck layout, vessel motion data, sea state conditions)
- Developed a full 3D CAD model of the transition piece in SolidWorks
- Created and loaded a finite element model in Ansys
- Performed strength and buckling analyses under design load cases
- Checked for fatigue sensitivity during transport
- Assessed the efficiency of the anti-uplift system within the transport configuration
